Page redraw is quite visible on the first search after fron page

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Go to http://footprint2009dev.appspot.com
2. Do any search (can be from popular)
3. There is a timeframe while page is reloading kind of heavily with
visible change between colors(white-blue)

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
The reload shouldn't be visible. Just like any subsequent one.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?

WinXp/Chrome, Firefox3 too
Please provide any additional information below.

Its happening when going to other pages:
- When login
- Going to Activity page
- Help page
- Sign out

This has improved, but it's still jarring.  When the page loads, the page loads 
different elements.... i.e. loads the blue background, then the map, then the 
results, etc...  This is painful since load times are pretty slow....
