blanking location field doesn't work (should be a locationless search) #450

trying to blank the "location" field sometimes fails,
i.e. literally won't allow you to run a blank-location
search.  Feels like an JS error of some kind.

note: there are also backend issues with locationless searches
and locationless listings, which I'm (adam) looking into.

assigning to karen-- locationless/virtual searches and the UI are 
underspecified...
what's supposed to happen?  why can't I blank-out the location field?
