Who can we ask to discuss the feasibility of this? Would require the backend to save prior forecasts? @patrick-tripp ?
I assume this is for OceansMap 3 visualization?
How long do we/they retain the forecast data product they want to use (30 days? 1 week?)? How long of a trend do they want to see?
This sounds like they are concerned about an approaching forecasted storm. For example: two days ago the forecast might predict the storm will arrive at 10PM Saturday, one day ago arrival was updated to 5PM Saturday, and the most current forecast says noon on Saturday (today being Friday). Following this trend, you might wonder if tomorrow morning forecast predict arrival at 7AM Saturday? Is this the sort of trend they are looking for?
You're spot on here @patrick-tripp. This would be most useful for an incoming storm so users can see the trend in the severity, timing, path, etc. Yes this is for OceansMap 3 visualization. As for how long we retain forecast data and how long of a trend they are looking for - the Maritime Coordinator mentioned he would like to, "View the most recent three or four forecast Time Series Line Plots". So we can discuss durations internally.
JH - A useful display, We are now making these for our own forecasts and can provide examples.
Google Sheet Row Number: 16 (Offshore Wind)
Want to be able to: When viewing model vs. observed Time Series Line Plot, plot difference in separate graph underneath So that he can: See the trend in forecast arrival time and/or magnitude of peak wind and wave conditions for a forecast storm or arrival time of wind speeds above a certain threshold (e.g. unsafe for blade inspections)
Does Oceans Map already have this functionality?: Yes Located where in OM?:
Inputs: NOAA Forecast Model Outputs: Time Series Line Plots
Feasibility: Maybe. Depends if the back end "saves" forecasts prior to the latest
Notes: Want to know the trends of the recent forecasts (if forecasts are dropping, show this)
