Given that Leanpub does not support callouts directly, the following is suggested.

Scan the source code noticing at which lines the callouts occur and removing the callouts
Generate the source code listing with line numbers starting at one.
Generate the aside as a set of hard line breaks in fthe format **#${lineno}:** text
