Make footnote markers easily tweakable #21

I want a smaller font, bold, superscript with no brackets. Others will want something else. I don't think I can remove the brackets with CSS (?)...

This is a tough one because the currently display is emulating the behavior of AsciiDoc Python to some degree, but isn't technically correct according to manuals of style or the best visual appearance. I'll need to give it some thought before I make a proposal of how to address it.
