Hi Robert,

this issue would better fit into the repo https://github.com/asciidoctor/asciidoctor-pdf. Asciidoctorj-pdf is just a small Java wrapper around asciidoctor-pdf, and this seems to be related to the core rendering logic of asciidoctor-pdf.
