This would make the system even cheaper... instead of buying a laptop the money can go into a better display driven by a Pi.
Currently would require omxplayer to play windowed video as per huceke/omxplayer#27. Alternatively could just call omxplayer and have it play fullscreen on top of the interface.
Overclocking the pi might allow good enough playback via mplayer as well.

The PI port wasnt possible 5 years ago due to hardware and software constraints. I am working on a fork thats currently in progress running off a Pi 3.
