I want to reuse sets of groups with specific attributes (layout, conditions etc.) on various characters. Using global groups also distributes the icons contained in the groups, which is not desired, as they are not relevant for other characters / classes.

I can imagine adding another type of global group where one can add character profile specific icons. Making changes to such groups themselves will affect on all characters while not influencing the character specific icon setup.
