Unable to check for updates #1623

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1.Open Zap
2.In help check for updates
3.Observe the popup dialog, OWASP ZAP unable to securely access the check for 
updates service

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
I should be able to check for updates

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
2.4.0 on windows 8.1

Please provide any additional information below.

Does it work if you check for updates via the 'Manage add-ons' dialog?
Are any errors logged in the zap.log file?
Are you proxying via any other tools / services?

- No
Are any errors logged in the zap.log file?
- i have checked the installed location for the log file, there is only a dummy 
file
Are you proxying via any other tools / services?
- not at the same time as ZAP, i use fiddler and Charles.

The log file ("zap.log") is created in ZAP's "home" dir [1]. Could you check 
there?
