This has been suggested in the past. I think Nico Weber is considering
implementing such a feature some time
in the future.

No. I considered implementing it for a while, but dropped the idea. If someone
wants to
do it, the old carbon version of vim has tabs in a drawer, so perhaps some of
that code
can be used.

Some arguments in favour of this:
- My monitors and laptops have all got much wider in recent years, so there's
lots
more extra space on the sides than on the top
- Tabs on top aren't very functional when working with lots of files with the
same
names but different directories (e.g. lots of different view.py files in a
django
project). Side tabs would let a decent amount of the path be shown.
I think a drawer would be the most ergonomic way of doing it.
