Instance Images

Mastodon supports two customizable instance images:

Instance thumbnail: Used for previews via OpenGraph and API. 1200x630px recommended Hero image: Displayed on the frontpage. At least 600x100px recommended. When not set, falls back to instance thumbnail.

I'm looking for help with these. Does anyone have ideas of what could represent mastodon.technology? Is anyone able to donate their graphic design skills to realize an idea? Please let me know!

I've thought more about this, and I'm kind of looking for something in the style of the Mastodon branding. Here's the default one that it'll be replacing, and I was thinking something in the style of, but visually distinct, from this:

Our instance is blue, so I'm okay with keeping the colour schemes. In previous versions of Mastodon, we had photoshopped a gear into the elephant instead of a paper airplane:

I think that idea, modifying something and adding our own twist, would be really cool.

So let's think this through...

I asked on Mastodon for a vector image of the original, but one does not exist. That's okay, I'll work on photoshopping out the trumpets, maybe change the blue to our shade of blue, #398CCC.
