Sending facebook messages takes forever. As I timed it take 8 to 10 minutes to 
send a single "hello".

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
Android 4.1.2 (Galaxy Note 10.1) and Android 4.0.4 (Huawei Ascend P1 LTE)

Maybe enabling port 8883 as ssl forward port will help. 
But you will need rooted device.
