Access different GV Account #38

Open GoogleCodeExporter opened 8 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 8 years ago
What steps will reproduce the problem?
1.always
2.
3.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?

I like to be able to access another GV account

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?

latest

Please provide any additional information below.

Here is the problem. Google does not allow to move the GV number to another GV
account nor do they allow call forwarding to another GV account.
I opened a new G-Apps Account and I want to keep the old GV number. But with
this plugin I do not get any chance to login the old GV account since it's tied
to the browser login.

Is there a chance you can build in the option to access a different GV account?

That would be absolutely awesome!!!

Thanks, Mike

As you said it's tied to the browser login, but there is a workaround to your
problem, which is Multiple Sign-in
(https://www.google.com/accounts/b/0/MultipleSessions).

You need to enable this feature in both of your accounts, and make sure to
login first with the Google Voice Account (the extension will use the first
account by default).

Yes, but then I do not get notifications and I always have to toggle between
the accounts.

As I mentioned an option to "untie" it from the browser would be nice

An option to untie it will require the user to enter his username and password
into the extension, and this isn't preferred for security reasons.

As i understood, you are using your non-GV account as your main account now
(that's what make you toggle between them to use the second one)

But adding an option to specify another account instead of (by default) the
first account, would be in the next version, whenever i finish it (it's a major
release, stay tuned).

PS: What notifications your are talking about??

Yes, this is right. This option would require the user to make a decision to
use the integrated authentication or the optional login where the desired GV
Account username and password has to be used. I don't think this option would
make the extension less secure but enable the user to receive GV Voicemails
from another GV account and make calls and send SMS. I am logged in in my main
mail account from Google apps and toggling between the accounts here is not or
a very bad option.

It's sad enough that Google does not allow to port the GV numbers.

Here is another example.

A user has a personal and a business G-Mail account. His GV on the personal
site is active but he is all day logged in to his business account to get the
business done.
If he likes to send a SMS he has to toggle. If he gets a Voice mail he will not
get it till ... he toggles to his personal site.

Many advantages to make this a option in you extension.

Thanks, Mike
