I've enabled True Darkness in the configs and went to test it in a creative world. First I noclipped into a deep cave that's completely cut off from the surface (no entrances). Therefore, no natural light (skylight) should be able to get inside. However, I've found a bug where cave brightness is affected by the time of day.
The brightness inside the cave increases during daytime. The cave's brightness only drops to true darkness pitchblack when it's nighttime on the surface.
I've added two screenshots with the clock item showing time of (1) day and (2) night.
EDIT: I've noticed that in the first screenshot, my video settings were set to maximum brightness. After lowering the brightness in the settings to moody, the brightness of caves during caves looks like this:
Still not true darkness though, so the problem persists.
