A couple of more issues are solved. Fixes #75, bit the main thing is that error propagation is implemented. Pinging @ddobie @dlakaplan if they are interested in checking the implementation

I haven't had time for a deep dive with the code, but as long as the basics revert the offsetting we did before I think I am happy if you merge.
