I would argue that this is basically the same as e-mail notifications - see
issue 7
In other words, if you want to get gtalk messages on your desktop, it's
probably best to install desktop gtalk or use the web version.
Does that make sense, or is there some use case that I'm missing?
Also, the android gtalk client doesn't give us access to its messages or
notifications, so it'd be pretty hard to do.

Sorry for my delayed answer.
I've read the problems on issue 7, and i see how this might be to hard to do.
the case scenario i have right now is that there is no gtalk client for the
mac, and i turn off my browser from time to time on my computer. I really
appriciate the text and phonecall messeges but i often miss that someone is
trying to reach me via gtalk.
But again, i understand how this might be a problem, do to not having access to
the notifications.
It wouldn't be to good if this ad to drain battery life...
