Please expand on ligature support #916

I know that Visual Studio "kind of" supports ligatures... But it's not nearly as good as, say, WebStorm, or Atom.

I'm staring at Visual Studio all day, everyday. I was so excited when my friends actually bought me the Operator Mono font for the holidays (an expensive font very well known in the programming community for its beautiful ligatures and it's considered a very top tier IDE font) only to discover I can't even benefit from them in Visual Studio.

Just look at how gorgeous this works in WebStorm and Atom as compared to Visual Studio ... this is using the default Operator Mono font (WebStorm), and the (forced) Operator Mono Medium font in Visual Studio (since it doesn't seem to see the generic one ...) image

Most of that doesn't work in Visual Studio, and that's disappointing.

I know Visual Studio has SOME ligatures support, since a few of the ones in Fira Code do work, but it'd really be appreciated if it could handle the whole gamut of things.

Thank you for all your hard work.

Doing a bit more research, it seems more that this is based on the fact that Visual Studio does not render anything with alternative font styles than ligatures. I'd still really like to see the way Visual Studio renders text expand a bit, with italic and such being offered.

@madskristensen any thoughts on this? Who would be good to reach out to?

Perhaps if the Fonts & Colors settings are due rework, typography options might be part of it.
