How can i create an application from FreePBX #162

Is it possible to do it? or do i must configure files?

I'm just trying to invoke an event whenever a call ends and to know if there was a new voicemail, how can i do that? right now i don't get any events i copied from the examples, probably because i didn't configure an application...?
