how to install latex2e info node #8

Closed gamboz closed 4 years ago

I wrote a note in the readme file about how to make the latex2e info file visible to emacs / digestif. The note is at the end of the file and there is a small link at the end of the point "Popup help messages..."

Thanks for the PR. Since this is not the only foreseeable installation difficulty, how about creating a "Common installation issues" wiki page? We could then point to it from the README.

Concerning the issue you came across, Digestif uses the info command line utility to fetch the info pages. This is not great, since it's probably not portable. Anyway, this means you need the info command installed and properly set up. So you should also clarify what lead info not to work out of the box; in principle, if you install texlive though your standard package manager, this shouldn't happen.

Note also: because of the above, the Emacs-specific comments you made don't really apply.

I see, thanks for the comment.

I do have different latex distros installed without my distro's package manager. This is probably why my info node were not readily visible.

There is some relation between info (command line) and emacs that I don't fully understand, since the customization of emacs' Info-directory-list does work, so I think I'll mention it anyway :)

I am going to close this PR and will open another one.
