Cycle 4 Funding: ASDF serialization of astropy objects (Madison) #412

Issue to track progress of Cycle 4 funding request which was approved in https://github.com/astropy/astropy-project/pull/375 .

Hey Elizabeth,

Let's get you started on getting a new contract with NumFocus because I think that's gonna take them a little while. Here are the instructions:

Go to https://numfocus.org/rocket Click on Independent Contractor Registration Form fields Project: Astropy Grant: NASA Full Name Email address Street Address Street Address City State Postal Code Country Start Date: May 1, 2024-April 30, 2025 Description: Funding: ASDF serialization of astropy objects Project Contact name: Astropy Finance Committee Project Contact email: finance@astropy.org Payment method: ACH, Wire Transfer, PayPal Bank Information Comments about payment Upload W9 or W8 Please let me know that you have submitted the form so we can keep track of it.

Hi, I am just checking to see if you had submitted the form so we can keep track of it. If you have sent it of let me know so I check on the contract. If you still need to do it please let me know when you are done! Let me know if you have any questions.

@AnaGabela I was told by Elizabeth that she thinks she has done all that has been requested. If that isn't the case, please let her and I know what still needs to be done. And if all the requirements have been done on that front, what will the next steps be. (@ElizabethEast @nden)

@AnaGabela -- I'm sorry, but I missed the contact name and email address that you provided. Is there any way for me to edit the numfocus record that I submitted yesterday?

HI! I am checking to see the status of all the applications, but numfocus may take a bit to get back to me.

@ElizabethEast I don't think you can edit the form but please try and email finance@numfocus.org with your changes. You can cc me if you like so I can keep checking on this angabela@gmail.com

Is there any update on this from numfocus? Elizabeth has sent the requested form changes to numfocus and they acknowledged making the changes.

I just check with NumFocus and they said "Yes, I have received a request for Elizabeth and will be working on her contract today"

Dear Dr. Brasseur,

Thank you for reaching out. I've been studying ASDF documentation and running various tests to confirm that I understand the material.

I'm adding ASDF in its present form to software that I'm writing for another client of my LLC who will benefit from having metadata attached to their files. That work is not related to Astronomy.

The only help that I need at present is the address to which I should report the hours that I've worked in a given quarter, once I've started to design and implement new serialization functions.

Just to clarify, you have not started work that will be charged to this contract yet?

I believe you will be submitting hours through the NumFocus OpenCollective system. If you have questions about that the contact is astropy-finance-committee@googlegroups.com.

If you don’t have an account yet, it will guide you to create one. If you have any questions or need any assistance with the invoice process, please let me know.

Hi Clara,

Yes, that is correct. I believe that most of the effort involved in coming up to speed in the present state of ASDF is on me and not billable. That gives me incentive to get through this phase promptly and begin to compose new serialization code. The time that I spend on that work will be billable hours.

Thank you for the NumFocus contact address. I'll re-read their webpages before I email them; the instructions that I need may already be there.

I was going to send you the following:

We have noticed that we have not received an invoice from your end for ASDF. Please let me know if this is a mistake, otherwise please send us an invoice soon. If you don't expect to be able to invoice us soon, please let us know when we can expect your next invoice.

I have created a template invoice that you can update with your own information. The invoice needs to include:

a brief description of the work completed.

links to PRs and/ or issues, where appropriate.

time period of the invoice.

The invoice does not need to indicate numbers of hours worked or an hourly rate.

To submit your invoice, please go to the NASA Grant on Open Collective.

Login, and under action, click on submit expenses. If you don’t have an account yet, it will guide you to create one.

If you have any questions or need any assistance with the invoice process, please let me (Ana) know.
