From the AAS 238 workshop, some thoughts on timing:
all workshops were on the same day this time, including our two sessions.
the 9am start time sounded reasonable when we set it, but that made it 6am on the west coast and even some registrants realized that only just before the workshop. Also some registrants didn't realize there were two sessions until we started (but they were able to register for the afternoon).
we have more sections on astropy core than the coordinated packages and the core ones are too long in total for a 3-hour session.
The astropy tables session in particular had too short an allocation at 20 minutes
Based on these observations, I recommend we go back to the full-day format we did for in-person workshops, and include core packages in the afternoon.
We returned to the full-day format for AAS 240 in Pasadena. More time was allocated to the core packages for AAS 241 in Seattle, though we ran over time by 10-15 minutes on Units and Quantities.
