I see three major categories, but I don't know the best names for them. Here are some examples:
One question is whether or not to divide up astropy project packages from the rest. I lean towards yes. So maybe: "Python Package" and "Astropy Package"?
I've added a Keyword Table tab here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1JmOF82Zmrs397wLwAmmL1rgDSsvP6Z4fLMr0hV5ZIb4/edit#gid=953884002
Here's what it looks like but please edit/comment on the google doc.
astropy package | python package | task | science | companion content |
---|---|---|---|---|
astroquery | matplotlib | contour plots | astrodynamics | Carroll & Ostlie |
coordinates | numpy | data cubes | stellar photometry | Cox |
obsplan | scipy | fits header | stellar physics | George H. Rieke |
reproject | fits image | radio astronomy | McLean | |
table | fits table | astrostatistics | Howell | |
model fitting | x-ray astronomy | Tennyson | ||
file input/output | Emerson | |||
histogram | Cassinelli & Lamers | |||
errorbars | Binney & Tremaine | |||

as keywords get updated, the website needs to be updated by hand: https://github.com/astropy/astropy-tutorials/blob/master/tutorials/themes/tutorials-theme/tutorialfilters.html
Should we consider having a separate keyword category for visualization? This category would include the currently used keywords: scatter plot, contour plot, error bars, color bar, and histogram.
@stephtdouglas and I have made lots of progress on the keywords during PyAstro19! One area we didn't touch much was the Companion Content keywords. They still need attention.
Things still left to do:
Reorganize and publish list of keywords. Reorganize = separate out science topics vs coding topics. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1JmOF82Zmrs397wLwAmmL1rgDSsvP6Z4fLMr0hV5ZIb4/edit#gid=1529571570
Also make sure keywords are in the UAT. (http://astrothesaurus.org/thesaurus/alphabetical-browse/ and http://astrothesaurus.org/thesaurus/autocomplete-widget/).
