based off the Go implementation

on a Mac:

Go: Result: 499999500000 in 254 ms.
Pony: Result: 499999500000 in 360 ms.

on a Windows machine:

Go: Result: 499999500000 in 360 ms.
Pony: Result: 499999500000 in 138 ms.
