new logo/icon proposal #122

Good day Sir I am a graphic designer and i am interested in designing a logo for your good project. I will be doing it as a gift for free. I just need your permission first before i begin my design. Hoping for your positive feedback. Thanks

@mansya Thanks a lot to offer a logo proposal. 🙇 Unfortunately, due to legal reasons we can't accept any community contributions to the branding of Xray. :disappointed:

You're more than welcome to give feedback, though. I started to play around a bit by randomly adding many layers that start to show an "X" where they intersect.. just like in xray scans.

Is Xray at a point, developmentally, where graphics for logos are being considered? Seems like good news if so.

It's probably a bit too early. :laughing: But it still doesn't hurt to try a few things early on and see if something sticks. The above is just a quick experiment, that wouldn't work when the logo needs to be a single color.

I also rate like that @simurai. so I offer to design a new logo without removing the X image on the logo.

@mansya Yes, exactly. It should be enough flexible so that you can use it on any background and also with a single color to print on t-shirts or so.

One concern that I heard, showing an "X" in the UI might look like a "closing button".

I will design it. you can see it later. if it is similar to the "closing button" I will fix it.

Just to be clear, as mentioned in https://github.com/atom/xray/issues/122#issuecomment-418284651, unfortunately we can't accept your proposal as the "official" logo for Xray, see this comment https://github.com/atom/atom/pull/3089#issuecomment-50504224 about changing the Atom logo.

You're still free to create a personal logo and use it as a "replacement" icon.

Hi,

In terms of development and such for xray, is there a plan for the future of xray? Is xray ideally intended to be a replacement for Atom with equivalent functionality? Is there a plan for existing Atom plugins to be compatible with xray - or xray it too different that they would need to be modified/rewritten? I am very interested in this project and I am quite curious. I see you guys are working on memo - is that intended as a replacement for Git or is it just an extra addition? Will GitHub eventually offer memo support? I am assuming Xray will still offer Git support, is that correct? Is Atom going to be "replaced" with xray when xray is in a usuable state (maybe in like, a few years)? My apologies for so many questions, I am just a big fan of Git, GitHub, and Atom.

hi sir. this is my design result. do you like it ? for the color can be adjusted again the thickness of the logo can also be redeemed again. Is the shape interesting ? xray I just showed the shape first sir. because if it is interesting with its shape I will continue its design with many color variations sir and with a logo that is more visible when viewed from a small scale.

That is good to know but them again that was about a quarter of a year ago so it would be nice to know their updated stance as I am quite interested and curious.

@ipkpjersi You can follow the team's current plans in the updates, and reading through the readme.

how is it? Can I continue with the logo? by thickening again then making pull requests?

@mansya As was already mentioned in https://github.com/atom/xray/issues/122#issuecomment-418284651 GitHub can't accept a community made logo for this project due to legal reasons.

Because we can't accept any community made logo, I'm going to go ahead and close this.
