This PR is intended to get some more conceptual thoughts down on the key components of the SDM. It's sort of like a higher level glossary to explain some of the SDM terms a reader might come across.

Attention towards this PR "drifted" away during the aspect docs work, but I wrapped it up some weeks back. Care to take another look?
