There is one edge case where it is desirable to have both a firestarter and fire 1 available N145 reopeners that happen after downtime in a boss such as trio mechanics or setpiece mechanics in that case you reopen with thunder 3 followed by instant ice paradox then immediately transpose into a fire paradox followed by a fire 1, this is to ensure you maximize the chances to generate a firestarter while also capping on astral fire If you manage to generate the firestarter on the fire paradox cast, your suggestion would force players to immediately spend the firestarter, as you still need to be AF3 to do fire 4s, but you would no longer have access to f1 due to the combo action
That sounds like such a niche counterpoint to my case, that it could be argued to be covered by the ability to just disable the combo in such rare situations...
That being said, it's great that i did get a reply after so long. Thanks for caring !
What is thy suggestion? My suggestion, is to make it so that Fire 3 replaces Fire 1 whenever Firestarter is activated or whenever Umbral Ice is activated.
1) Are abilities in question must be truly mutually exclusive? Technically no, but in both cases, there is no reason to use Fire 1 over Fire 3:
Firestarter: It's an ability that makes Fire 3 a free, instant cast, triggered by using Fire 1. What more to say ?
Umbral Ice: Both Fire 1 and Fire 3 are free when in the Umbral Ice, and if you have three stacks of Umbral Ice, both have their cast times halved. While on a first glance, this makes Fire 1 better to use due to it's lower cast time, in reality using Fire 3 is better because any case where you would use Fire 1 while in Umbral Ice you are better off using Transpose; whereas using Fire 3 not only gives you better DPS for a slight increase of time (still under the 2,5s base recharge time, so enough to slap in a OCD), you also instantly gain all three charges of Astral Fire upon cast, which is, without saying, a enormous increase in DPS for no cost. And while Fire 2 is usually better since it's very slightly faster to cast for the same benefits, on a single foe Fire 3 is still a better choice, which is what you would use Fire 1 for anyway. (Sidenote: It's also a better choice than Transpose in that use case, as while the later is a instant cast, using Transpose is a 2,5s base recharge time of downtime doing no DPS, unable to do anything but OCD, and gives only a single charge of Astral Fire, while Umbral Ice Fire 3 does DPS, leaves enough time to use a OCD without stepping on your normal casts, and gives all charges of Astral Fire.)
In both cases, Fire 3 is opportunity and mana cost-free, and ends up being a better DPS option than using Fire 1.
2) Does this actually saves you button space? Yes, one button, as both cases fully covers the use cases of Fire 3. While it's not much, it's honest work.
3) Is it wild and wacky? Other than the fact this suggestion is a 2-in-1, no.
4) Is the overall level of intelligence required to execute is about as low as the floor? No. Unless you find it hard enough to think of clicking Fire 3 instead of Fire 1 when in Umbral Ice, but in which case, why are you playing BLM ?
