@pfreitag getting the unit tests working locally and in travis proved to be more troublesome than anticipated. looks like everything is finally cooperating on this one

Please prepare a PR that adds documentation to https://github.com/atuttle/taffydocs for the new method. Assume the new version number will be 3.3.0; you'll need to copy 3.2.0.md into a new 3.3.0.md, and update it accordingly. Once that's ready, we can merge both that PR and this one.
