Windows error when invoking Smokeview #103

Closed GoogleCodeExporter closed 9 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
CFAST 6.3.0.925
Smokeview 6.0.8

When running the attached case, several people in a training class received a
Windows error when trying to invoke CFAST using the "View" button. However,
double-clicking on the .smv file worked fine. This error occurred on about half
of the machines, and it's not clear why. Other cases ran OK.

Sorry I meant to say when invoking Smokeview using the View button.

If you can get a screen grab of the Windows error message, it would make
debugging easier.

The error messages are attached. The computers were Windows 7 Dell laptops.

Glenn, this is occurring in smokeview. Thoughts?

I do not believe that this is a Smokeview issue. I could double-click on the
.smv file and it ran fine.

Are you using same version of smokeview in both cases? If not what version of
smokeview are you installing with cfast?

The students installed the version of CFAST that is currently on the GoogleCode
site.

I'm not able to reproduce the problem. I uninstalled CFAST then installed the
latest version from google code. I ran the case from comment 1 and viewed it
from within the CFAST gui - no crash .

Maybe this is a permissions thing. Do you know where your user put the input
file?

This happened on a few machines for this one case. I could not reproduce on my
Dell Windows 7 laptop. However, everyone could double-click the .smv file and
things worked. That and the error message are what we have to work with. If we
can't reproduce, at least we have a record of this type of problem. We'll see
if others report similar.

I am also getting a failure running Smokeview from the View command on the
CFAST GUI. Here's the error message I receive. The problem appears to be in
loading the smoke volume shader.

your smokeview is a couple of years old, try installing the latest version at
http://code.google.com/p/fds-smv/wiki/Downloads_Overview?tm=2

Also, try viewing your case by double clicking on the .smv file (after you
install 6.1.5)

This should be fixed with the latest Beta release of 6.3 that includes the most
recent version of Smokeview. We'll close this for now. Resubmit if the problem
occurs again.
