I found a slightly different but related old Redmine issue... https://redmine.audacious-media-player.org/issues/297 (that got imported to GitHub here... https://github.com/audacious-media-player/audacious/issues/431)
Ultimately I still use the Winamp Classic Interface, because... retro :)
In Winamp-mode we'd really need to keep the Shuffle button as is... or it just wouldn't work with the skins. However I would be up for a Repeat button that goes through the modes... Off, Repeat One Song, Repeat Playlist... if it wasn't for the fact that I don't think the mode could be visually shown to the user. This is because I'm pretty sure Winamp skins just have a graphic for when the button is off, and another for when it is on.
As mentioned in the linked Redmine issue. Perhaps we need to make a 'No Playback Advance' button more easily accessible in both Winamp and non-Winamp modes instead?
In Winamp mode perhaps this could be added to the list of options in the 'MISC' button you see on the playlist window?
However in non-Winamp mode, you could have 3 buttons next to each other (shuffle, repeat, and no-advance)... and maybe a setting that hides all 3 buttons and gives you 1 button instead? (that in the background, just works those 3 hidden buttons for you?).

I've seen in it other media players and I really like this approach.
Instead of the following buttons:
[ ] Repeat playlist [ ] Shuffle
We could have a single button with the following states:
[N] Normal, play consecutively [1] Play one song and stop (so, there's no need to have an extra menu item "No playlist advance") [∞] Repeat all [∞1] Repeat one song [s] Shuffle
If you don't like the idea, never mind. ;-)
