Use Evo Sabre through a Volumio3 Plugin

the plugin script requires (unknown) password #1

I have just mounted the EVO DIY DAC, and have tried for several days to get things to work:

  1. I did several failed attempts to flash the Dietpi for EVO. On several cards known to work with othert images. Failes to load.
  2. Switched to Volumio image which can probably be my solution because it offers Roon plugin.
  3. Installed and Volumio seems to be working fine. The sabre i2s is set as output, but there is only silence. The only thing that works is the USB external input to the DAC.

NOT WORKING:

  1. The remote is not working after installing YOUR image for EVO SABRE VOLUMIO. It does not help to install the REMOTE plugin available via Volumio
  2. Thus, I cannot find a way to switch to e.g. optical input, which is what I would use

THEREFORE I tried the beta plugin here, but I am halted by Linux requiring password for sudo commands. (When ssh connected to volumio:4150). This password is not known to me, nor is there anything in the AudioPhonics documentation. I tried "volumio" and "raspberry" etc but no success.

EDIT: I later see that there is a new Volumio-eveo folder at my macboopro. Perhaps the TERMINAL command SHELL.NewRemoteConnection did not connect to RPI, and hence the psw requirement. Looking into that, but problem remains; remote not working. END OF EDIT

I would like to get the remote going first of all, whether through this beta plugin or by other approach.

Need some asap guidance. Thanks! PS: Right display script is working from the standard image. It is the remote that is the problem and stops the fun here.

Hello,

First of all sorry you went through all this trouble.

The "INPUT" button on the remote should change the source regardless of a Raspberry Pi being mounted or not.

To confirm : the vol + & vol - buttons should work without installing anything too. Can you check that volume on the leftmost display cannot be changed with the remote as well ?

Page 9 of this document lists all the remote functions that are supposed to work out of the box (before a Pi is even mounted). The leftmost display should show stuff when those are used. If none of those work I am afraid this might not be a software issue.

I have a knack for buying the "blue Monday model" so I am used to the situation. Just help me get it going and all will be fine. The good thing for you is that if I there is a bug somewhere, I will find it for sure. I have a very strong smell of forthcoming work for your sw engineer.

If the remote works without RPI then it works also with RPI mounted. Correct? Thus, I have not dismounted and tested that situation. If I need to do that, tell me.

Volume does not work at all on the remote, not in any of my tested scenarios. Volume works on the rotary.

The remote could be ok since play/pause and more works with Moode image, which means there is something going on with the PCB? Of course, the remote could be partly in error, that's also possible.

But, please tell me why I have a PCB without holes etc. What is the difference between that version and the one on all pictures everywhere on the internet?

Carl

The datasheet document listed below I could not find on your point of sales for this DAC. Why not? It is of high value for a DIY product and should most definitely be available under the "DATASHEET" Tab. Proper documentation is very important.

Kind regards

Carl Henrik

Are you sure this customer support should be viewable on Github? Future customers should not see this, agree?  Why not delete all here and start using a personal email for solving this problem.

Definitely right. This has to do with after sale service and should not be treated as an issue regarding plugin development on Volumio, which is what this repository is all about. I checked the after-sale service.

It seems this is a known issue on a specific batch and they have a fix for this. I am closing this issue here and sending you an email with more instructions.
