Transparent background #175

The new icon in the notification bar is easier to read, but the black 
background is very distracting.  Would be better with a transparent background. 
 HTC EVO 4g LTE.

Hi.

Thanks to yours and others' reports, I am now aware that there is more 
variation across Android 4.0+ devices than I had realized. I'm going to be 
thinking about this. You can follow an updates on issue 174.
