I didn't receive any bug reports since opening the issue. This doesn't mean it didn't occur since, but I'm confident that this is anyway a good change. Any way that this can get merged and published on NPM?

Thanks and sorry for the delay, I agree with your comment this is the way to go.. I will publish this today as v2.0.0.

If someone found some problems with this we can split the options later.
