Change archive and update hosting #12

Since GitHub is removing its Downloads features, we will have to find a new host for these files before they are removed from GitHub servers. They can still be accessed at https://github.com/autodl-irssi-community/autodl-irssi/downloads for 90 days from December 11th, 2012.

This issue is for informative purposes to users as much as anything.

Interesting. There are several options, including just hosting the static files with Sourceforge. Or we could setup a separate repo for downloads and commit them with git and orphaned commits.

Or the update mechanism could be moved to git based.

I was wondering why it was missing. Its going to suck without the download feature.

In the current situation, the update mechanism won't work... So I'm not sure how we are going to notify users that they need to manually upgrade. Kinda sucks :(

According to the announcement, the API will still work for that 90 days. So, it should be possible to replace the update.xml with one to redirect to the new one for those that use auto update or manually update during that time.

I've changed the tracker update hosting over to Google Code. You should expect to see AnimeBytes, Empornium, GazelleGames, PreToMe, and The Dark Syndicate added with the update. Please post here if you notice any issues.

Will the source code still be updated in GitHub or is the entire repository moving over as well?

@Ghent github will still be used for the code. Just the update hosting will be on Google Code.

there might be a way to "sync" the git repo and your .irssi/scripts folder with symbolic links no ?

I like the idea where you can update the plugin using git. No need for a download section anyway since git does exactly that. It's not uncommon for a seedbox provider to have git capabilities.

The rest of our update/archive files have been moved over to Google Code. Please update if you don't have auto updating enabled. We will leave the Github downloads up until they are removed around March 11th. If you haven't updated by then, you will have to do so manually.

If you see any problems, try restarting irssi. If that doesn't work, post here.
