The end date in the sales / earnings filter defaults to the current day / month / year, but it doesn't actually work unless you select a date.
If you leave the end date untouched (so it defaults to today) and don't select a date, the filter won't work until you move the end date. If you want to end on today, you have to move the date back a day and then forward.
