only showing avatar not webcam livefeed

What steps will reproduce the problem?

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
I started video chat. Friend joined hangout. normally both webcam feeds show 
when video is enabled. I only see my friend's avatar, and my own webcam feed 
when I should see her webcam/live video too. SHE sees her webcam live feed, and 
my webcam live feed.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
not sure which version of hangout. Mac OSx.6 on chrome browser
