Determination of optimal cropping parameters

Images need to be adjusted to remove the extraneous information without losing valuable information. We need a method to do this. It is complicated by the following factors:

• The edge of the region that we want to keep are not parallel to the edge of the image
• The region that we want to keep is not rectangular but cut off at the corners

Alternatively, we could just focus on the inner portions to generate workable codes that can later be expanded to larger datasets. - This was just suggested to me by Tony.
