I see what you're saying and frankly, I didn't know MediaCrush existed, until now. I checked with a GIF and it's equally good, and is supported by RES as well.
That said, my goal is not to promote gfycat.com in any way, nor am I getting any incentives from them, In the same way people who make extensions/bots for Imgur aren't necessarily supporting them, they're just making User-experience better, so am I. But I will modify the about page for the bot and add link to MediaCrush as well.
No worries. I agree that the biggest issue with MediaCrush is exposure. I think that people who would publish bots on GitHub might prefer to go the open-source, pro-privacy route and thought I'd drop by.

The alternative being the open-source, ad-free MediaCrush, which supports GIF->HTML5. It also supports albums, is pro-privacy and served over HTTPS, and has a great and well-documented API. If your goal is to promote gfycat - you're good to go. If your goal is to promote HTML5 GIF usage, you might consider the alternatives.
