Description of changes:
It took me over an hour (partly because I wasn't fully focused) to get step 1 working. I want to pay it forward and make this step a bit smoother for others going forward. Copying the contents of the MacOS Finder doesn't automatically copy hidden files, and crafting the right cp -r is annoying. I like this approach of just cd'ing into directory and doing a git init from there -- nothing to move or copy that way!
