We heard back from the EventBridge team regarding this feature request. They are currently working on improvements around observability for EventBridge Event Buses and Pipes, specifically logging. They believe that this addresses a common use case of inspecting event invocations, filtering, routing, and failures.

We can't provide guarantees as to when these improvements would be implemented but please feel free to check back in the future. (We recommend reaching out through AWS Support for updates if you have a support plan.)

In the meantime, their recommended workaround is to set up a DLQ on the rule which will capture the error reason as well. This was mentioned by the author of the original issue referenced here, but I'll also share the documentation here for reference: https://docs.aws.amazon.com/eventbridge/latest/userguide/eb-rule-dlq.html.
