Q plugin for VS Code stops responding #4497

Closed wjquigs11 closed 6 months ago

Problem

After several questions, plugin stops responding. I cannot type anything in the "Ask a question..." box. If I close the chat window and open a new chat window, I can type in a new question, but I don't get a response (other than echoing the question). If I disable and re-enable the extension, it starts working again.

Steps to reproduce the issue

Ask several questions.

Expected behavior

System details (run the AWS: About Toolkit command)

OS: Darwin x64 22.6.0 Visual Studio Code extension host: 1.86.2 AWS Toolkit: 2.12.0 node: 18.17.1 electron: 27.2.3

Can you provide the Toolkit logs?

  1. In VSCode settings, ensure that "aws log level" is "debug".
  2. Perform the steps to reproduce the issue.
  3. Use the AWS: View Toolkit Logs command to get the logs.
  4. Remove any private info from the logs.

I'm wondering if this is more of a VS Code issue...changed log level to debug but I don't see anything in VS Code for AWS:... (see screenshot).

The log should be in the output pane and you will need to switch to AWS Toolkit logs in the dropdown list.

I'm having the same issue - latest vscode, plugin etc.

In my case, I can enter my first question, when I press send, my question appears in the chat window, but that's it. I can't type anything else in the question box. So I click "+" to make a new chat, same thing happens.

Sometimes, if I start the chat with just "hello", it responds, but as soon as I paste even a small amount of code, or ask it to look at highlighted code, it locks up.

I'm not seeing anything in the logs which might indicate why.

All I have noticed is that it seems to happen more when vscode has been open a while. But if I restart vscode, it doesn't fix it.

Amazon Q and its "inline suggestion" features (formerly CodeWhisperer) is now a separate Amazon Q extension.

Is the issue still occurring with the standalone Amazon Q extension?
