Community Note

Tell us about your request What do you want us to build?

A Tomcat 9/Corretto 8 AL2023 Platform

Is this request specific to an Elastic Beanstalk platform? If so, which one(s)?

Tell us about the problem you're trying to solve. What are you trying to do, and why is it hard? What outcome are you trying to achieve, ultimately, and why is it hard/impossible to do right now? What is the impact of not having this problem solved? The more details you can provide, the better we'll be able to understand and solve the problem.

With the announced end of life of the AL2 Tomcat 8.5 platforms there is a gap for several of our applications that are not jdk 11 or 17 ready at this point.

Are you currently working around this issue? How are you currently solving this problem?

Not a problem until August 2024 with the announced AL2 Tomcat 8.5 platform retirements

Additional context Anything else we should know?

One idea we had was to use puppet and/or an ebextension to install corretto 8 and swap out the running JDK for the tomcat app server on the provided AL2023 tomcat9 corretto 11 or corretto 17 platforms

Attachments If you think you might have additional information that you'd like to include via an attachment, please do - we'll take a look. (Remember to remove any personally-identifiable information.)

We released Corretto8 Tomcat 9 on AL2 instead of AL2023 due to compatibility concerns. https://docs.aws.amazon.com/elasticbeanstalk/latest/relnotes/release-2024-01-29-al2.html I think you may use it as a temporary bridge until AL2 end of life in 2025.

@praegt I'd be ok with closing this one as the immediate need was met with the Tomcat 9 Corretto 8 on AL2 platforms at least for me.
