There is no mention along the chapter about retail experience. Also, the metered pay-per-use pricing model sounds to me like a important aspect of AWS's the value proposition.

Ah yes. I see the problem here. The question was "Which of the following does NOT contribute significantly to the operational value of a large cloud provider like AWS?" You're absolutely correct that C would make no sense as a correct answer, but we were looking for an incorrect answer. I guess we shouldn't have formatted the question using a negative. In fact, it's for this very reason that the streaming course provider Pluralsight doesn't even allow their authors to use the negative, as it's unnecessarily confusing.

Sorry to be a pain, so was the answer to question 1 C or is it still D as pricing does not matter to AWS only its customers

The correct answer is indeed C. The problem isn't the accuracy of the question, but that the way it's phrased (with a negative) makes it unnecessarily confusing.
