Hi,

I have a rhel 6.7 aws cloud server with collectd installed. Now i try to install cloudwatch plugin for collectd from this github but i get the following stacktrace of error: @adefrtappwg0001 src]# ./setup.py Traceback (most recent call last): File "./setup.py", line 964, in main() File "./setup.py", line 957, in main install_plugin() File "./setup.py", line 869, in install_plugin install_packages(SYSTEM_DEPENDENCIES) File "./setup.py", line 261, in install_packages command = DISTRIBUTION_TO_INSTALLER[detect_linux_distribution()] + " ".join(packages) File "./setup.py", line 270, in detect_linux_distribution return DISTRO_NAME_REGEX.search(search_string).group(1).strip() AttributeError: 'NoneType' object has no attribute 'group'

What am I missing ? Will it not work on RHEL 6.7 ? src]# cat /etc/redhat-release Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server release 6.7 (Santiago

This is my collectd version (?? usefull ??) src]# rpm -q collectd collectd-5.5.3.1.g4f9adee-1.el6.x86_64

Could you paste the contents of "/etc/*-release" files. Normally, there is a line like following. NAME="Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server"

ashwin-ke commented 7 years ago

It does not seems to be like that. Here is what is there in the server:

ls -l /etc/*-release

-rw-r--r--. 1 root root 152 Jul 14 2016 /etc/lsb-release -rw-r--r--. 1 root root 55 Jun 12 2015 /etc/redhat-release lrwxrwxrwx. 1 root root 14 Aug 6 2015 /etc/system-release -> redhat-release

cat /etc/*-release

LSB_VERSION=base-4.0-amd64:base-4.0-noarch:core-4.0-amd64:core-4.0-noarch:graphics-4.0-amd64:graphics-4.0-noarch:printing-4.0-amd64:printing-4.0-noarch Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server release 6.7 (Santiago) Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server release 6.7 (Santiago)

Note that there is no NAME= . There is just the release version and name. Any workaround or fix ?

yimuniao commented 7 years ago

cat /etc/lsb-release cat /etc/redhat-release

What is your AMI? And which region is your EC2 running in?

ashwin-ke commented 7 years ago

~]# cat /etc/redhat-release Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server release 6.7 (Santiago)

~]# cat /etc/lsb-release LSB_VERSION=base-4.0-amd64:base-4.0-noarch:core-4.0-amd64:core-4.0-noarch:graphics-4.0-amd64:graphics-4.0-noarch:printing-4.0-amd64:printing-4.0-noarch

Region is eu-central-1 AMI is custom ami.

Hi Guys,

Were you guys able to find anything on how to get past this error. Any fix or workaround ?

yimuniao commented 6 years ago

Hi, Workaround, put following line to "/etc/os-release" NAME="Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server"

Or could you help to test following setup.py?

#!/usr/bin/env python
"""
The installation script provides the following key functions:
1. Installation of dependencies required for the plugin.
2. Download and extraction of plugin source code into a predefined location /opt/collectd-plugins/
3. Plugin configuration using EC2 metadata as defaults if possible.
4. Configuration of Collectd in order to use this plugin.

Depending on the version of collectd installed on the host we provide the following options:
1. version >= 5.5.0 - by default we will supply a configuration and whitelist with percentage host metrics enabled.
2. version >= 5.0.0 - we will offer option to inject our plugin into the existing configuration (no metrics are whitelisted).
3. any other version of collectd is not supported.

I gave up installing on rhel 6.7 and tried to install on rhel 7 and installation went smooth without me having to do any changes.
