Add log retention #154

Description of changes:

Enhanced validation and feedback on parameters,
Optional parameters can be left blank to omit them.
additional validation for parameters in the Cloudformation template to allow 'faster fail'.
Add log retention (optional) parameter defined, with backward compatible default value.
