I gave CircleCI a shot, and did get it working, but only after shelling out $30 just so I could up the RAM enough for the Gatsby site to build.
I've run the GitHub Action and CircleCI orb against each other to compare performance, and generally:
GitHub Action is slower with a less-attractive UI, but is free (for this repo, since it's public)
CircleCI is about 3 minutes faster, but required a paid plan to be used
Since my goal is to target newer developer and help them get moving on "cooler stuff" faster, I'm choosing to remove CircleCI since the barrier to entry is lower for the GitHub Action.
