To be honest I'm not sure if this is a missing feature or a bug, but I can't find the 'Hide from status lists' checkbox while editing media.

Yes of course, it's simple. Wait for the next beta version ;)

Implemented this on Android beta 1.2.6 (55) and iOS beta 1.8.0 (43)
