I originally wrote imap-scrub to solve an immediate issue I had: to get rid of unnecessary messages in my Gmail account to reduce space. Over time I added a few new features here and there, but soon realised that this project needs a proper rewrite. Then the feature requests started coming in for features I do not need, use, or which aren't easy to implement.
I simply do not have time or motivation this project, and I hardly use imap-scrub any more. Most of my free time is taken up with Mailpit which I actively develop and support.
New maintainer needed
What this project needs is a new maintainer - someone willing to take this idea, rewrite it in a manner that works properly, and just generally make it better. You would maintain your own project and I would reference yours and archive this project.
Feature ideas
Some ideas are:
Oauth login support (mainly for Gmail)
The ability to scale down attachments (including inline messages) rather than just having the ability to delete them from the messages. 99% of my excessively large attachments are images I have received from others, and it would be far better to just save a small version of it rather than have no record of it.
Regex mailbox names / parse subfolders [#9]
Support for signed messages (as not to delete the signatures) [#6]
If you are interested in carrying the torch - to continue to develop your own fork / version of imap-scrub - then please let me know. As I said before, this project needs to be rewritten to be as flexible as possible, and hopefully include some of the above-mentioned features.
