I decided to tackle the topic on the surface level as the title state ,it's an overview about What is the event loop and asynchronous operation are executed . i find it too overwhelming to try explain it in details for my self as i have to fully deep dive into detail and understand everything and for the reader which will not necessarily has to know so much staff related to the OS Kernel (epoll,kqueue) ,Lib UV functionalities (signal handling,file system event,sockets,dns resolutiong). leave it to the people who really understand the topic and can deliver it at Best i have mentioned few links that i have found helpful.
