Xenial Mate laggy + broken animations/icons #105

I've tried both the stable versions and the pre-release versions of Xenial Mate on my ROCK64 4GB and both versions had the same problem. Once the system boots up, it would show the login screen just fine up until you move your mouse and realize the cursor is a messed up lined square. Typing in my credentials is just god awful slow, there's a delay of maybe 2 seconds between me typing and it showing up(Not sure if it's just because I use wireless keyboard/mouse) Then after logging in, the desktop, everything just takes at least 5 more minutes to show up. I formatted my SD card using SD Card Formatter and flashed the images using Etcher. Thanks in advance for any advice I can get to get this working! 28170695_2005792639448800_2032380264_o

Out of curiosity, what type of SD card are you using? I believe a slow card could produce these symptoms, but I do not have significant experience with using a graphical interface on the r64.

It is a Samsung Evo Plus 32GB. There's no way it's the SD Card as I've installed multiple other OSes with no problem.

Cool, thanks for humoring me all the same! Evos are usually pretty good!

I've experienced the same with xenial-mate-rock64-0.6.8-157-arm64, but was fine after reboot. Also I've tested stable xenial-mate-rock64-0.5.15-136-arm64 and that was ok, but somehow slow (graphics wise), the best results I've had with latest xenial-mate-rock64-0.6.21-187-arm64 that has very nice results, but there are some unstable reboots (GPT on SD card seems not healthy). Also I need to refrain of apt upgrade, because some new gfx libraries are updated and results are back on stable release level. I've ROCK64 4GB

@vasekch I've noticed the same. running apt upgrade breaks the desktop environment once I reboot and I couldnt figure out how to fix. Only Xenial mate version that worked for me was the eMMC boot version. Debian Stretch mate seems to work fine, but same issue with apt upgrade
