I was going to make a parallel PR for the Flexbox approach anyway: I'll try to get this one to generate a review site.

There's a problem with the existing form of this PR which make it difficult to edit: the accordion update is 2.x only, but this is to be merged with the main branch. It might be simplest to make yet another pull request: trying that next.
